This summer, I was selected to work as a Corporate Safety and Environmental Sustainability intern with La-Z-Boy Incorporated at their world headquarters in Monroe, Michigan. During my internship, I work closely with the different verticals of La-Z-Boy Inc. to help create an overall corporate sustainability strategy that is aligned with the triple bottom line framework. One of the key deliverables of the internship was to identify focus areas under each of the three priority pillars of a sustainability strategy – People, Planet and Profit, and to devise initiatives around them to help La-Z-Boy lower its’ environmental footprint throughout the supply chain. Additionally, I got the opportunity to work on some other interesting projects, including streamlining recycling and waste management across the manufacturing facilities and implementing eco packaging for the brand. This internship was an excellent opportunity for me to gain practical and hands-on experience in one or more areas of corporate sustainability and build solid competencies within the field. This internship has helped me become a well-rounded professional to pursue my goal of working on the sustainability strategies of global firms.
