About the Organization
TAAF serves the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in their pursuit of belonging and prosperity that is free from discrimination, slander, and violence. Founded in 2021 in response to the rise in anti-Asian hate and to address the long-standing underinvestment in AAPI communities, TAAF funds best in class organizations working to mobilize against hate and violence, educate communities, and reclaim our narratives through our core pillars of Anti-Hate, Education, Narrative Change, and Resources & Representation. Through our grants, high-impact initiatives and events, we’re creating a permanent and irrevocable sense of belonging for millions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. About the Internship
TAAF is excited to offer an internship program that will provide participants with challenging, meaningful, and real-world experience. Participants will support departments on a variety of high-stakes projects related to administrative support, process development and improvement, and project management. In addition to having a dedicated mentor, participants will receive access to leadership and professional growth activities to gain valuable career experience in a fast paced startup environment focused on social change.
Interns working in government relations will assist with engagement efforts with governmental agencies, officials, and other relevant groups to advance AANHPI policy issues and partnership opportunities at the federal, state and local levels. They will gain an intimate knowledge of the legislative and political process, how to think and operate in government, build key relationships and receive mentoring. Interns will collaborate and present a deep dive at the end of their internship to the greater TAAF team on their findings and recommendations. Our ideal intern will have background in social justice awareness, community organizing, public policy, advocacy or other related fields. They will believe in working strategically with transparency and accountability, embrace a culture of learning, work respectfully with compassion, kindness and gratitude, and seek to be inclusive and collaborative in decision-making.

Responsibilities

Create a tracker of all AAPI legislators and appointed officials

Create a directory of contacts of staff

Keep track of legislation that impacts the AAPI Community

When appropriate, attend meetings and events with me
- Complete other special projects and duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Education/Experience
- Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a secondary school, accredited technical/vocational program, college or university in the United States
Required Skills
- Strong research and writing skills
- Ability to generate reports and summaries
- Proficient with the use of Google Workspace (Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Slides, etc.)
- Interest in Asian American studies, politics and/or policy preferred
- Passionately supports, understands, and can communicate our mission to serve the AAPI community in our pursuit of belonging and prosperity that is free from discrimination, slander, and violence
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly rate is $15.00 unless otherwise determined by any applicable city, county and state regulations regarding minimum wage
