The American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ABSH) is an educational organization whose purpose is to promote the exchange of ideas and foster multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, and inter-professional scholarship, research, teaching, policy development, professional development, and collegiality among people engaged in all endeavors related to clinical and academic bioethics and the health-related humanities. ASBH is open to all individuals with an interest in healthcare from disciplines such as ethics, health policy, history, law, literature, and religion.
- Productive Engagement: ASBH supports an environment of productive engagement where the free expression of diverse points of view occurs in an atmosphere of scholarly exchange and mutual respect.
- Community & Networking: The Society specifically seeks to foster dialogue, collegial endeavors, and membership with persons from diverse cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds, promoting inclusivity and global perspectives in bioethics and humanities.
- Education & Research: Encourages consideration of issues in human values as they relate to health services, the education of healthcare professionals, and research. ASBH conducts educational meetings dealing with these issues and stimulates research in areas of concern in bioethics and health humanities.
ASBH represents nearly 1,800 physicians, nurses, social workers, members of the clergy, educators, researchers, and other healthcare professionals interested in the specialty of bioethics and the health humanities.
