The Investment Portfolio Analyst resides within U.S. Bank’s Corporate Treasury division and is responsible for assisting in the management of USB’s investment portfolio. This position reports to USB’s Head of Investment Portfolio Management and will work with a team of investment portfolio professionals who are responsible for portfolio strategic asset allocation, security selection, prepayment modeling, and trade execution. The ideal candidate will have a background demonstrating knowledge and interest in fixed income capital markets, a quantitative and analytical mindset, and an understanding of bank specific risk and regulatory constraints. The position will work with portfolio managers to develop and maintain spreadsheets, statistical models, and presentations for financial analysis related to budgets, forecasting, relative value asset analysis, and peer group analysis.
Develops and maintains spreadsheets and quantitative analyses for a variety of financial applications including financial statements, reports, budgets, and forecasts.
Assists in the development and implementation of investment strategies to be used in asset and liability management.
Researches, collects, evaluates, and analyzes statistical data regarding pre-purchase and on-going relative value analysis related to asset allocation and security selection.
Develops daily reporting on key rate durations and scenario analysis of portfolio positions within the context of overall bank interest rate and convexity risk.
Assists in the development and implementation of updates and on-going performance monitoring of prepayment model and alternative challenger models.
Establishes relationships with sell side sales, trading, and research coverage to understand market dynamics, build relationships, and develop trade ideas.
Develops and analyzes hedge capacity opportunities and reporting while monitoring hedge ineffectiveness.
Prepares reports and presentations for management decision making or for regulatory agencies.
Assists in the development and forecasting related to regulatory stress testing.
Evaluates and advises management on financial reporting needs in light of changes in regulatory requirements or business needs.
Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics or Accounting
Two to three years of capital markets and or/fixed income experience
Well-developed quantitative, analytical, and financial skills with an interest in portfolio management and trading.
Working knowledge of financial analysis techniques, economic theory, and general accounting procedures.
Operating knowledge of fixed income mathematics, portfolio theory, analytical models, forecasting, and planning.
Ability to identify and resolve exceptions and to analyze data.
Background on bank portfolio investment asset classes, including government bonds, interest rate swaps, agency MBS, municipal bonds, ABS, agency and non-agency CMBS, corporate bonds, CLOs, and bank-owned life insurance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. CFA charterholder or MBA desirable.
