Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to producing innovative theatre of the highest quality by American and international playwrights, with a focus on presenting New York, American, and world premieres, invites individuals to apply for Paul A. Kaplan Theatre Management Program full-time Winter/Spring 2022 internships. For 50 years, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by contemporary American and international playwrights. We are committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in every aspect of our work both on and off the stage.
MTC is producing six plays during the 2021-22 season in Broadway’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and off-Broadway at the historic New York City Center complex. Writers represented in the season include Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Dominique Morisseau, Paula Vogel, Simon Stephens, Joshua Harmon, and Anchuli Felicia King.
The Paul A. Kaplan Theatre Management Program provides a unique opportunity to learn about producing not-for-profit theatre both on and off-Broadway through intensive on-the-job training. Interns are assigned projects and responsibilities that contribute to the day-to-day running of the company. Additionally, interns’ relationships with their supervisor and mentor ensure that they are not only gaining valuable skills but also receiving continuous support and feedback. The training experience is further enhanced by an educational seminar series led by the industry experts on MTC’s staff as well as career development coaching with our human resources team. Program alumni go on to work in the industry at theatre companies producing on Broadway, off Broadway, and regionally; in casting offices, production companies, and theatrical advertising agencies; and, in allied arts and cultural organizations across the country.
MTC Marketing is a fast-paced, exciting work environment. We work with every department at Manhattan Theatre Club, along with our press team (Boneau/Bryan-Brown), our advertising agency (Serino Coyne), our web design agency (AKA) and various actors, directors, playwrights, managers, and agents. Marketing interns are a key part of opening nights, helping to facilitate press lines and aid Marketing senior staff.
The Marketing Analytics intern is a key member of our five-person team, providing crucial support to the Marketing Manager, Sales and Analytics and general support to the team at large. This internship will provide you with skills in various ticketing systems (including Tessitura and Telecharge). You will refine your administrative and customer service skills by serving as the first point of contact for group sales and as a key player on our outreach team. In working closely with the Senior Marketing Manager, you will be exposed to a wide variety of sales-based analytical tools and reports, including daily wraps, sales projections, and market comparisons. By the end of the internship, you will have learned analytical skills that will serve you well in future careers in marketing, general management, finance, and executive management.
We seek curious, bright, organized and detail-oriented individuals who are passionate about theatre and excited to learn more about the business side of marketing. The Marketing Analytics intern communicates regularly with people from many different backgrounds, so individuals with customer service experience should definitely consider this internship, along with individuals with a background in finance. Advanced experience with Excel is preferred, but not required.
Previous Marketing Analytics interns have gone on to work in administrative roles in marketing offices at arts nonprofits including Ars Nova, New York Theatre Workshop, and the Women’s Project.
