Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position:

Intern will assist with environmental health and safety (EH&S) duties at a manufacturing site. Intern will work directly with EH&S Department to plan and conduct activities designed to support the site’s environmental health and safety programs, and lower EH&S risks and support a strong EH&S culture. Key projects will be discussed and agreed upon at the start of the internship and will include implementing EH&S program and process changes. Intern may conduct and/or participate in EH&S audits to identify program gaps and evaluate risks. At the end of the internship interns will present on their work to the facility leadership. The purpose of our Intern Program is to raise the bar on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for our immediate and future needs.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Interface with EH&S and other manufacturing support groups on a daily basis.
  • With guidance from EH&S, lead the agreed upon projects that will enable the facility to meet its goals and objectives for the duration of the internship.
  • Evaluates EH&S risks and develops recommendations and/or plans to minimize risk.
  • Participate in incident investigation and corrective/preventative actions as needed.
  • Learn EH&S Systems and tools and how they are used in manufacturing facilities.

 

Required Qualification:

  • Currently enrolled in Safety and or Health related fields, Environmental Studies, and other related Engineering field.
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Ability to perform work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to interact with manufacturing personnel and staff
  • Sound problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $1,519.00 – $3,074.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
