Vacancy in the Bay County Friend of the Court Office
Position: Family Evaluator/Mediator
Salary: $51,105 – $59,800 (Hire/6 mos/1yr/2yr/3yr) The position is within the Circuit Court Non-Represented Group
The Bay County Friend of the Court assists the 18th Judicial Circuit Court- Family Division in facilitating the resolution of domestic relations matters so that children’s best interests are protected. We enforce child support, custody and parenting time orders, monitor accounts and prepare recommendations for the Court regarding custody, parenting time and child support.
Duties of this position include conducting lengthy interviews with parents in high conflict, meeting with children, collecting collateral information and preparing extensive written reports and recommendations regarding custody, parenting time and child support. The successful candidate will work with parents to resolve disputes related to their children, conduct mediation and encourage positive future behaviors to serve the best interest of children. We are looking for someone who handles pressure well, maintains objectivity and confidentiality, possesses critical thinking and investigative skills and demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. This is a challenging position which requires the ability to consider multiple perspectives, complete work within deadlines, testify in court and write extensively.
Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Counseling, or in a related field; Juris Doctorate. Within reasonable time period from date of hire, individual must successfully complete a training program provided in accordance with MCL 552.519(3)(b); working knowledge of Michigan Court Rules, Michigan Compiled Laws and domestic relations case law. Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, and the ability to interact positively with clients from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds are essential.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, walk, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to read typed and/or hand written material. The employee is frequently required to reach forward with hands and arms. The work performed frequently requires close exposure to VDT’s, DRT’s, UV rays. The work performed frequently requires repetitious hand, arm or finder motions, as well as manual/finger dexterity. An employee in this class works in the Family Court office, though travel within the State may be periodically required for training and meetings.
